Is PowerJam a power station or a speaker?+
Both. That is the entire point. PowerJam is a full-capacity LiFePO4 power station with a high-output audio system engineered to perform at the level of a dedicated outdoor speaker. Neither function is a bonus feature. Both were primary design requirements from day one. If you're looking for a speaker with a USB port, that's not this. If you're looking for the device that eliminates the two-bag problem for good, this is it.
Why LiFePO4 instead of lithium-ion?+
Three reasons: cycle life, thermal safety, and long-term economics.

Cycle life: LiFePO4 delivers 2,000+ charge cycles to 80% capacity. Lithium-ion NMC delivers approximately 500. At one full cycle per day, lithium-ion is in measurable decline in 17 months. LiFePO4 reaches that same point after over 5 years.

Thermal safety: LiFePO4 begins decomposition at 518°F. Lithium-ion NMC begins thermal runaway around 300°F. For a unit used outdoors — in a truck bed, at a desert campsite, on a hot jobsite — that's real-world protection.

Economics: The premium you pay upfront for LiFePO4 is paid back multiple times over in replacement units you never have to buy.
LiFePO4 costs more to build with. We build with it anyway because we're building for the person who uses this thing hard for 10 years.
What does pure sine wave AC output mean and why does it matter?+
There are two types of AC output in portable power stations: modified sine wave and pure sine wave.

Modified sine wave is cheaper to engineer and produces a stepped approximation of AC power. Most simple loads — incandescent lights, basic motors, simple chargers — run fine on it. Sensitive electronics, variable-speed motors, medical devices, and inductive loads can behave erratically, run hot, or fail on modified sine wave power.

Pure sine wave is what comes out of your wall at home. Every device you own is designed for it. CPAPs, laptop chargers, power tool battery chargers, LED drivers, audio equipment — all of them get clean power from a pure sine wave output.

PowerJam outputs pure sine wave. This is not a premium feature. It's the correct engineering choice for a device used with modern electronics.
How long will PowerJam run different devices?+
Estimated runtimes on the PowerJam 1000 (1,000Wh). Actual runtime varies with device efficiency and settings. Inverter efficiency (~90%) reduces available wattage for AC loads.

Smartphone (15W avg): ~55–65 charges
Laptop / MacBook (60W): ~13–15 hours
Box fan 120V (45W): ~18–20 hours
12V DC fan (20W via DC port): ~45–50 hours
CPAP (30W avg): ~28–32 hours
LED work light (50W): ~17–19 hours
Mini fridge (60W avg): ~13–15 hours
Cordless drill charger (70W): ~10–12 full charges

Rule of thumb: divide PowerJam capacity (Wh) by device wattage for a rough runtime in hours. Multiply by 0.85–0.9 for inverter efficiency on AC loads.
What's the difference between the 500Wh, 1,000Wh, and 1,500Wh models?+
PowerJam 500 — Right for day trips, short camping trips, light device charging (phones, tablets, small accessories), and situations where portability is the primary concern. Not sized for all-day jobsite use or extended off-grid stays.

PowerJam 1000 — Our most popular configuration. Right for full weekends of camping, all-day jobsite use, overlanding, emergency preparedness, and any situation that requires sustained heavy device use over 24+ hours. The unit most buyers should start with.

PowerJam 1500 — Right for extended multi-day off-grid use, high-surge tool operation, multi-device charging in a work environment, and situations where the power budget is tight and buffer matters. The unit for builders, serious overlanders, and preparedness buyers who size for 120% capacity.
When in doubt, size up. Running a power station at 50% capacity extends cycle life. Running it at 100% every day reduces it.
🔊Audio System
Is the PowerJam speaker actually good or is it just a checkbox feature?+
We built the audio system to compete with dedicated outdoor speakers in the $200–$350 range. Not to check a feature box.

The audio system was designed by people who build speakers — with a full-range driver configuration (woofer + tweeters), a passive radiator for bass response, an aptX-enabled Bluetooth 5.0 chipset, and an enclosure tuned for outdoor projection rather than indoor listening.

We advertise RMS wattage — not peak. The RMS number is the sustained output the speaker delivers all day without distortion. It's the only number that matters, and it's the only number we publish. If a competitor advertises peak watts and won't tell you their RMS, that tells you everything about their speaker.
What is aptX and why does it matter?+
Bluetooth audio uses codecs to compress and decompress audio data for wireless transmission. The codec determines audio quality over a Bluetooth connection.

SBC — the default Bluetooth codec. Works everywhere. Audio quality is noticeably compressed, especially in the high frequencies. This is the codec that makes Bluetooth sound like Bluetooth.

AAC — better quality than SBC, used natively by Apple devices. Significant improvement, especially for streaming services.

aptX — near-CD-quality wireless audio. Lower latency than SBC and AAC. The codec gap between Bluetooth that sounds like Bluetooth and Bluetooth that sounds like a wire.

PowerJam supports SBC, AAC, and aptX. If your source device supports aptX (many Android phones, laptops, and audio players do), PowerJam will automatically negotiate it for the best available audio quality.
How loud is PowerJam — honest answer?+
Loud enough for a jobsite with nearby equipment running. Loud enough for a campsite where the next tent is 50 feet away. Loud enough for a tailgate with 30 people and ambient crowd noise. Loud enough for a small-business outdoor event.

It is not a touring PA system. It is not designed to fill a festival stage. It is the loudest, clearest device you will bring to any of the environments it's built for — and it will sound better than the dedicated speaker at the neighboring campsite.

Peak SPL measured at [XX] dB @ 1m. RMS output [XX]W sustained.
🛡Build + Durability
What does IP65 actually mean in practice?+
IP65 means two things: 6 = dust-tight (zero dust ingress under any conditions), and 5 = protected against direct water jets from any direction.

In practice: you can use PowerJam in rain, at a dusty construction site, in a barn with straw and dust in the air, in a sandy desert camp, and in a workshop with grinding dust and particulate — without meaningful risk to the enclosure.

It is not designed for submersion (that would be IP67/IP68). Don't submerge it. But in any real-world outdoor working environment, IP65 provides adequate protection for everything you're likely to encounter.

Most premium consumer Bluetooth speakers are rated IPX4 — splash-resistant, designed to survive accidental contact with water in controlled conditions. IP65 is a materially higher standard.
Does it work in cold weather?+
Yes. LiFePO4 chemistry retains capacity in cold temperatures measurably better than lithium-ion NMC. PowerJam is rated for operation down to [XX]°F.

At freezing (32°F), LiFePO4 typically retains 85–90% of rated capacity. At 14°F (-10°C), roughly 70–80%. Lithium-ion NMC in the same conditions performs significantly worse and may throttle output to protect itself.

For extreme cold-weather use (below 14°F), we recommend pre-warming the unit before drawing heavy loads. Keep it inside a vehicle or sleeping bag when not in use in sub-zero conditions.
☀️Solar + Charging
How do I charge PowerJam with solar panels?+
Connect any compatible solar panel (100W–400W) to PowerJam's DC solar input port using the appropriate connector cable. PowerJam accepts solar input in the [XX]–[XX]V / [XX]A range.

Estimated charge times (1,000Wh model, full sun):
100W panel: ~10–12 hours
200W panel: ~5–6 hours
400W panel: ~3–3.5 hours

These are full-sun estimates. Partial cloud cover, panel angle, and temperature all affect real-world charge times. Size to 200W+ for practical off-grid use with the 1,000Wh model.

Pass-through charging: PowerJam charges from the solar panel while simultaneously outputting power from any port. No switches, no interruption.
What solar panel should I buy with PowerJam?+
Western Harmonics sells a purpose-matched 200W foldable solar panel optimized for PowerJam charge times and field use. It's the panel we tested with, and it's available as a bundle at a discount from the pre-order page.

Third-party panels are also compatible as long as the output voltage and amperage fall within PowerJam's solar input specification ([XX]–[XX]V / [XX]A). Most name-brand portable panels in the 100W–400W range will work. Check the output specs before purchasing a third-party panel.
🔧Use Cases + Compatibility
Can I run power tools from PowerJam?+
Depends on the tool and the model. Here's the honest breakdown:

Runs cleanly on any PowerJam model: Cordless tool battery chargers (most are 70–120W), LED work lights, angle grinders (sustained use), jigsaws, rotary tools, small compressors (check surge rating).

Requires PowerJam 1500: Circular saws (high surge draw), reciprocating saws, large angle grinders, hammer drills. Check the tool's surge wattage against the 1,500Wh model's surge output spec.

Won't run reliably on any model: Full-size air compressors, large table saws, welding equipment, heavy motor-start loads that exceed surge capacity.

The key spec to check is surge wattage — the instantaneous power draw when a motor starts. Most power stations fail tools not because of continuous wattage but because of surge spikes at startup. We publish PowerJam's surge spec honestly.
Can PowerJam run a CPAP machine?+
Yes. CPAP machines typically draw 25–60W depending on pressure setting and whether humidification is active. The PowerJam 1000 will run a standard CPAP for approximately 15–35 hours depending on settings — multiple nights of use on a single charge.

For CPAP use, we recommend: (1) use the 12V DC output if your CPAP has a DC adapter — this bypasses the inverter and extends runtime. (2) Disable humidification if possible, as it significantly increases power draw. (3) Use the PowerJam 1500 if you want a meaningful buffer for extended outages or multi-night use without recharging.
Who should NOT buy PowerJam?+
We'd rather tell you than have you buy the wrong product.

Don't buy PowerJam if:
— You only need a power station and genuinely don't care about audio (buy a dedicated power station — you'll spend less)
— You need a lightweight backpacking speaker (PowerJam is not a 1-lb ultralight speaker — it's a working device)
— You need to run a large air conditioner or high-draw appliance (size to a generator instead)
— Your only use case is indoor home backup where portability doesn't matter (a stationary battery system is a better investment)

PowerJam is for people who use power and audio in the same places at the same time. If that's not you, there's a better product for your situation — and we'd rather you find it than be disappointed by one you shouldn't have bought.
🛡Warranty + Support
What does the warranty actually cover?+
[X]-Year Limited Warranty on the unit: Covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Includes parts and labor. If it fails because of how it was built, we fix it or replace it.

[X]-Year Battery Warranty: Includes a written capacity guarantee — if the battery falls below [XX]% of rated capacity within the warranty period due to normal use, we address it. Not the ambiguous "defects only" language that covers nothing in practice.

What it doesn't cover: Physical damage from drops or abuse, water damage beyond the IP65 rating, and capacity loss from operating outside specified temperature ranges.

Warranty service is handled directly by Western Harmonics. You contact us. We respond. The people who built the product handle what breaks.
What's the return policy?+
30 days from delivery date. If PowerJam doesn't perform the way we described it in our product materials, ship it back. Full refund. We cover return shipping.

We ask one thing: give us a chance to fix it first. If there's a problem, contact our engineer support team before initiating a return. In our experience, most issues are resolved without a return — and a fixed unit beats a refund and a problem you still have.
📦Pre-Order
Is the pre-order deposit refundable?+
Yes. Fully refundable, any time before your unit ships. No cancellation fee. No questions asked. We don't want your money if you change your mind — we want customers who want the product. Cancel via email to our support address and your refund processes within [X] business days.
When will PowerJam ship?+
Estimated ship date for the first production run: [date]. We will send production status updates to all pre-order customers at every meaningful milestone. If the timeline changes — for any reason — you will know before it happens, not after.

We don't send radio silence. If we're tracking ahead of schedule, you'll know. If production runs into a delay, you'll know within 48 hours of us knowing.
Does pre-order pricing lock in for life?+
Your pre-order locks in the launch price. If the retail price increases between your order date and ship date (it won't decrease, but if it did increase for any reason), your price does not change. You pay what you were quoted at the time of pre-order. Period.
